The Giver

I think that Lois Lowry ended the book with a cliffhanger to let her readers think for themselves, and to let their imagination run wild, and in 6th period we most certainly  let our imaginations run ahead of us!  We had a spirited argument about the ending of The Giver, with almost everybody thinking Jonas saw a mirage, or was hallucinating, or was dead.  Personally, I’d like to think he survived that sled fall.  Is it too much to ask for a little optimism?  I loved The Giver, but was incredibly disappointed in the ending because I severely dislike cliffhangers.
